DaisyDisk for Windows: what to use instead
The short answer: DaisyDisk is a macOS-only application and there is no Windows build, official or otherwise. Any download page promising DaisyDisk.exe is either a different program or malware. What you can get on Windows is the thing DaisyDisk is loved for - the sunburst map.
Why the ring map reads so well
A sunburst puts the drive in the middle and grows outward: the first ring is the top-level folders, the second is what sits inside them, and so on. The angle of a sector is its share of the disk, so a folder eating a third of your SSD takes up a third of the circle. You do not compare numbers in a table - you see proportion directly, the same way a pie chart works but with depth.
Treemap tools - WinDirStat, SpaceSniffer - encode the same data as nested rectangles. Rectangles pack a screen more densely, but the hierarchy dissolves: it is hard to tell at a glance which of two boxes is a child of which. That is why people who moved from macOS to Windows keep asking for DaisyDisk instead of installing WinDirStat and being done with it.
What CleanMyWin does
- The same ring map, six levels deep, with the click-to-drill and click-the-centre-to-return behaviour.
- Hovering a sector shows its size and its share of the current level.
- The side list mirrors the chart and marks file types with icons, so a 40 GB video is not hiding among folders.
- Deletion goes to the Recycle Bin right from the list - including paths longer than 260 characters, which Explorer refuses to delete.
- A scan of a 1.8 TB system drive with 2.79 million files takes about 44 seconds cold and a couple of seconds warm.
Honest limits
CleanMyWin is not the fastest tool on Windows. WizTree reads the NTFS master file table directly and finishes a big drive in a few seconds, which no ordinary directory walk can match - but it needs administrator rights and shows the result as a treemap and a table. If raw speed is what you are after, use WizTree. If you want to understand the disk in one glance, take the ring map.
It also does not clean anything by itself: no registry sweeps, no promises to speed up the computer. It shows where the space went and removes exactly what you point at.
